Gauri Lankesh was a friend, liked my work: AMR Ramesh
Bengaluru: Film director, AMR Ramesh seems surprised at being issued a legal notice to stop him from making a film on senior journalist/activist, Gauri Lankesh, who was shot dead last month outside her home by an unknown assailant.
Her mother, Indira Lankesh has issued the notice to Mr Ramesh and the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) asking them to drop the film on her daughter's life. "I was friends with Gauri and she liked my work and how I researched real life incidents and characters. I am friends with Indrajit (Ms Lankesh's brother) as well, and he himself had suggested I make a film on her. More than anything I am hurt to see that I will be sued for Rs 10 crore if I go ahead. What is there to hide?" asked the director.
Revealing that he had not yet received the notice, he said, "I was informed by the post office about the legal notice as the address to which it was sent was wrong. So I have not yet got my hands on it. But I would like to assure the family that I will definitely take their consent and will notmake a movie, which will insult her in any way."
As for his plan's for the movie, he said he was researching the case, talking to police officials and collecting reports on it. "I am a clean filmmaker and my movies reflect this. She (Gauri) is a public asset and the public should know the truth. Whoever has done this must be punished," he asserted. Mr Ramesh maintained that nothing had changed between him and Indrajit Lankesh despite the notice issued to him. "We were and are still friends. In no way has that changed," he added.
