ACB plan' to raid IT officials kicks up row
Bengaluru: A tip off by intelligence agencies to the Income Tax department that the Anti Corruption Bureau sleuths are gathering information about I-T officials and there are chances of the ACB conducting raids on some of them has prompted a top I-T official to write to the state government, terming the plans as inappropriate.
It is said that the an intelligence agency had alerted the I-T department a few weeks ago that the ACB, which is under the direct control of the Chief Minister, is gathering details about a set of I-T officials and is preparing to conduct raids and search operations.
It has reportedly stated that the ACB’s move was in retaliation to the I-T department’s series of raids on Congress leaders in the state.
Following the tip off, it is said that a DG rank official of the department has written to the state government, including the home department, that such a step would be inappropriate and the
ACB has no powers to initiate any action against central government employees.
Further, he has also reportedly stated that if the ACB had any information about corruption by any I-T official, it should alert senior officials of the I-T department or the CBI.
The letter was written around 10 days ago and the state police is said to have replied to the IT department stating that the ACB had no such plans and were aware of the fact central government employees does not fall under their jurisdiction.
