Shamna Tasnim death: SHRC panel finds medical negligence

The case will be considered at the sitting of the commission in Kannur next month.

Kochi: The State Human Rights Commission on Wednesday registered a case on the death of medico Shamna Tasnim after observing that there was prima facie medical negligence leading to her sudden death at the Ernakulam Government Medical College Hospital recently.

Commission acting chairman P. Mohandas, in his order, asked the Chief Secretary, Health Secretary, Director of Medical Education, Principal of Ernakulam Government Medical College, District Medical Officer, Director-General of Police and City Police Commissioner to probe the incident and submit an explanation within three weeks. The case will be considered at the sitting of the commission in Kannur next month. Shamna is a native of Mattannur in Kannur.

The commission noted that Shamna who came with fever to the hospital collapsed and died after she was administered an injection on the instructions of medicine head Dr Jilse George.
