Karnataka: Wonder boy Vaishak fights off python
Mangaluru: While primary school kids love watching Chota Bheem, Krishna or other cartoon heroes fighting cruel animals to emerge victorious, a small boy of the same age has become a hero overnight here by surviving an encounter with a python.
After ‘defeating’ the giant snake, Vaishak, the 12- year-old boy of Sajipa village in Bantwal Taluk is now under treatment at Fr Muller Hospital in Mangaluru.
Vaishak who studies in Class 6, was on his way to his grandmothers’s house from his home on October 4 when the python, said to be hiding in a roadside bush, tried to coil around him all of a sudden taking him by surprise.
“The python tried to crush me and bit my leg. It opened its huge mouth and started swallowing my hand. I was shocked and really did not know what to do. I then mustered courage and found a stone which was nearby. I used it to hit the python’s eyes with my right hand. The snake which felt the pain let me go,” Vaishak told reporters.
Vaishak identified the python as he had seen similar ones in his neighbourhood. He is under treatment for two small injuries.
After saving himself from the snake, Vaishak immediately rushed to his relative’s house to show the wounds.
He was taken to nearby doctors for treatment and later to Fr Muller Hospital in Mangaluru. Doctors in the hospital said Vaishak was a brave child. “The bites are non venomous. We are treating him to heal his wounds,” Paediatrician Shreedhar Avabrata who is treating him said.
