IndiGo flight makes emergency landing at Hyderabad for ill passenger

The passenger is in Intensive Care Unit and his condition has improved, the airline claimed.

Hyderabad: An IndiGo Kolkata-Bengaluru flight was on Thursday diverted to Hyderabad due to medical emergency on-board, the airline said.

During the cruise, a passenger, who was traveling with his friends to Bengaluru, complained of chest pain and breathlessness and when asked, he informed cabin crew of flight (6E-716) that he was travelling for his medical treatment.

"The passenger had not declared his medical condition at the time of check-in at Kolkata. Immediately the crew provided him first aid (oxygen) and simultaneously paged for doctor on board and made an in-flight announcement declaring medical emergency on-board," IndiGo said in an email reply.

"As a response to the announcement, one passenger identified himself as a doctor. He along with the crew administered all medical assistance to the passenger.

"The Captain-in-Command immediately requested the ATC for a priority landing at Hyderabad airport and requested to keep the ambulance and doctor on standby," the airline said.

On landing at Hyderabad airport, the passenger, escorted with his three friends and IndiGo staff, was rushed to the airport medical unit. After thorough examination, the passenger was taken to a nearby hospital.

IndiGo is in touch with the family of the passenger.

The passenger is in Intensive Care Unit and his condition has improved, the airline claimed.
