Ganesh idol made of corn cobs draws crowds
Hyderabad: A Ganesh idol made of 6,201 corn cobs is installed at Somajiguda. After offering puja, the cobs will be distributed to devotees as prasadam, the
organisers said on Monday.
K. Ram Murthy, organiser of the Ganesh pandal at Somajiguda basthi, the corn
cobs were procured from Ballari in Karnataka, and it took 45 days for a team
of artists to complete the idol. First a frame was made with iron rods and
then the corn cobs were stitched around the frame.
Omkar from Ballari, the man behind the natural Ganesh idols, said the idols
should be made only with clay. “If that is not happening, fruits and
vegetables which Lord Ganesh favours should be used.”
The organisers believe these corn cobs which are a part of the idol can bring good fortune to families. “It is not only eco-friendly but if kept at home can be a very good sign,” added Ram Murthy. Devotees from the surrounding areas have been thronging the pandal to offer prayers at the Ganesh idol.
