Thiruvananthapuram: Quizzers to witness history
Students to join PM Modi at ISRO HQ.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wee hours of Saturday when Chandrayaan 2 will be making its historic landing on the moon, at the headquarters of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Bengaluru, a 15-year-old schoolgirl from the city and a 14-year-old boy from Kannur will be witnessing it along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shivani S. Prabhu, Class X student of Holy Angels ISC School and Ahmed Tanveer of Class 9 of Army Public School, Kannur, are the two guests selected from Kerala after they won a nationwide online quiz competition.
After two successive deorbiting manoeuvres, Chandrayaan-2 is scheduled to land on the moon on Sept 7 between 1:30 am and 2:30 am.
Mr Modi is likely to be present at ISRO headquarters to watch the landing along with 75 students selected from across the country live by ISRO through a nationwide quiz competition on MyGov.in.
From each state, one boy and a girl (who are studying in standards 8-10) got the opportunity. They will also interact with the PM.
Shivani is the daughter of N. Sreenivas, working with Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre’s Advanced Propulsion and Laser Diagnostics and G. Rekha.
The online quiz was related to astronomical issues.
“Shivani was the state topper in the International Maths Olympiad in 2017. She was not expecting to win this,” Mr Sreenivas told DC.
Shivani wishes to pursue either engineering or medicine after schooling. In her free time, she engages in playing badminton and watching television documentaries.
