Flyover scam: court sends TO Sooraj, 3 others to jail

The court will consider their bail petitions on Friday.

KOCHI: The Muvattupuzha vigilance court has remanded the four arrested including former PWD secretary T.O. Sooraj to judicial custody till September 19.

Apart from Mr Sooraj, the other three remanded in the case included managing director of RDS Projects Sumeet Goyal, former KITCO official Benny Paul and RBDCK assistant general manager PD Thanakachan. They are lodged in Muvattupuzha sub-jail.

The four accused are slapped with charges of corruption, conspiracy, cheating and misuse of funds. The other accused in the case included government officials and employees of the contractor. A total 17 persons are arraigned in the case.

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau also plans to examine the financial dealings of the accused.

The VACB says that the work on the flyover was taken up from the National Highway Authority of India for facilitating corruption. The VACB has also questioned former PWD minister Ibrahim Kunju in the matter.
