TN CM urges teachers to teach beyond textbooks
Chennai: Hailing teachers and their role in shaping young students, Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palaniswami on Wednesday urged them to go beyond textbooks and not to stop reading.
While giving Dr Radhakrishnan award to best teachers in the state he said, “The teachers who have received this award alone are not the best teachers. All the teachers are the best teachers. Those who did not get the awards should not be disheartened and those who got the awards should not stop here.”
“The awardees were given additional responsibilities. The award is only the ticket for a long journey and they should update themselves by continuous reading,” he urged. Speaking on other initiatives to improve the school education, he said, “The state government has allotted '16 crore to develop one school in each district as a model school.” “The state government will give 10 computers to each of 3,090 government high schools and 20 computers to 2,939 higher secondary schools to set up computer labs,” he added.
School education minister K.A. Sengottaiyan said, “The state government will fulfil all demands of teachers. This year, the teacher transfer counselling was held in a transparent manner and 13,500 teachers got transferred at the counselling.” He also said a refresher training courses will be conducted for teachers in the current academic year.
This year 373 teachers received Dr.Radhakrishnan award. Totally, 960 students from classes 10 and 12 who have excelled in academic, sports and co-curricular activities got Kamaraj Award. The government has replaced cash award for state toppers in board exams with Kamaraj award. And 20 schools also given clean schools award.
Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palanisami also released a book called “Experiential learning”ahead of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th-year celebrations and deputy Chief Minister O.Panneerselvam received the book.
