Hyderabad: Wakf Board plans skill development centre

The Board wants the Centre to bear 60 per cent of the cost of setting up the NSDC and the rest is to be paid by the state government.

Hyderabad: The TS Wakf Board is planning to set up a National Skill Development Centre (NSDC) on a part of the 50-acre site allotted by the government to the Dargah Hazrath Syedna Baba Sharfuddin at Pahadishareef.

The land was allotted after the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and other groups demanded that the government compensate the Wakf Board for the land it acquired for the Shamshabad airport

Sources said the Wakf Board was considering options to set up the centre with the help of Central schemes to improve employment of persons from the minority communities in skilled sector.

Wakf Board chief executive officer Shahnawaz Qasim said, “We will submit a report after studying all aspects for setting up the NSDC. We want it to have facilities like workshops for practical sessions, classrooms for theory classes and hostels for the students,” he said.

The Board wants the Centre to bear 60 per cent of the cost of setting up the NSDC and the rest is to be paid by the state government. It wants the Centre to allocate the funds from Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Yojana. As part of the scheme, the Union minority affairs ministry recently suggested setting up of NSDCs across the country.

Some time ago, an international NGO had evinced interest in setting up a charitable hospital on a portion of the land to offer free service to the poor.

“Several people are approaching the board for lease on the land for projects aimed at social service. We have not finalised anything yet. The proposal for setting up the NSDC is under consideration,” said Wakf Board chairman Mohammed Saleem.
