Hyderabad: Data show educators career lure millennials

The data revealed that over 58 per cent of teachers fell in the 20-35 age bracket, a drastic change from a decade ago.

Hyderabad: Data from over 3,000 teachers reveals that there has been an upswing in the number of millennials opting for a career as an educator over the corporate sector.

These millennials have bid goodbye to their corporate jobs and taken the teaching route to utilise their skills and impart knowledge to young students, according to Cuemath. According to the analysis, 50 per cent of these teachers come from experience in a corporate job. The data revealed that over 58 per cent of teachers fell in the 20-35 age bracket, a drastic change from a decade ago.

In all, 53 per cent of these teachers listed ME, MTech, MCom, MBA and PhD as their first or highest qualification followed by BE, BTech and BSc.

The millennial workforce brings with it the realities common to the generation, such as flexible learner centred models. “Working professionals are turning to teaching because of the satisfaction the career can offer. In our study, a mere 3 per cent of the teachers actually chose to do BEd initially, reflecting how teaching might not have been their Plan A but is a career of a choice today,” said Mr Manan Khurma, founder and chief executive officer of Cuemath.
