Governor should dismiss minister, DGP, says DMK

CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami kept attempting to divert the case and protect the minister and the DGP, the leader of Opposition said.

Chennai: Welcoming the CBI raid on the houses of health minister C. Vijaya Bhaskar, DGP T. K. Rajendran and former Chennai city police commissioner George, DMK president M. K Stalin demanded that the governor Banwarilal Purohit should dismiss the Minister and the DGP if they do not quit voluntarily.

In a statement on Wednesday, he said “I learnt that the CBI raids were conducted in 40 places. Even as Madurai Bench of Madras HC ordered for appointment of commissioner of DVAC to probe into the gutka scam, the government transferred the then vigilance commissioner V. K. Jayakodi, considering her integrity.”

Stating that names of health minister and DGP were not mentioned in the FIR with an ulterior motive, Stalin said even as then director of DVAC Manjunatha put pressure to include these names. “Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami kept attempting to divert the case and protect the minister and the DGP. However, the DMK filed a case in Madras high court, which ordered for a CBI probe ,” the leader of Opposition said.

“The Supreme Court upheld the Madras high court order. Subsequently, the CBI conducted raids at houses of those names, which cropped up during inquiries,” Stalin noted.

“Even after such raids, it will be a shame for the health minister and top police officers to continue. They should quit immediately,” he said. The Governor should take stock of the situation and dismiss Vijaya Bhaskar and DGP, he demanded.
