Visakhapatnam: Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation chief medical health officer Dr A. Hemanth admitted that they had not formed any team to monitor on smoking incidents in public places.
When this correspondent contacted him, he said, “the enforcement could be brought with cooperation from police and commercial tax department. We are in talks with other departments to form a team for the strict enforcement of the rule that prohibits smoking in public places, at the earliest,” he added.
Mostly on the crowded places on Beach Road, such as near YMCA, RK Beach, people are being victims of passive smoking. Moreover, hawkers are earning good money selling loose cigarettes on Beach Road.
