Dozen roads to be widened in Guntur

Cops took the decision to ease traffic congestion at many places in Guntur.

Guntur: Nearly a dozen roads will be widened in Guntur city to ease traffic. Along with increasing population, traffic is also increasing in the city leading to frequent traffic snarls on the congested roads.

The Brodipeta Fourth lane is the main centre in the city and commuters get troubled due to frequent traffic snarls at this place. The traffic police has decided to make this road one-way. Road dividers would be constructed on the road to regulate the traffic.

Nearly 6 lakh vehicles, including motorcycles and auto-rickshaws, are registered in Guntur district. As many as 40,000 auto-rickshaws, including seven seaters, ply in the city.

Following the announcement of Capital city location, traffic has increased and is going out of control due to the frequent visits of CM N. Chandrababu Naidu, ministers, VVIPs, legislators and other officials to the headquarters of various government departments in Guntur.

The Jinnah Tower, NTR Statue, BR Stadium, Hanumaiah Statue, Old Bus stand centre, Lodge centre, Gujjanagundla, Naaz Centre, Nagaram-palem, Mudubommla Centre, GMC office, collectorate, Chuttungunta, Communist Bommala Centre and Yetthu road Centre were identified as areas witnessing heavy traffic in the city.

The police department diverted the educational institutions buses from the Guntur-Amaravati main road to other roads to reduce traffic jams but the increasing number of four-wheelers, two-wheelers and APSRTC buses on the route are leading to traffic snarls.

D. Radhakrishna, a resident of Kothapeta, said a majority of the hospitals were situated in Kothapeta and adjacent In emergency situations, people have been facing trouble in reaching the hospitals, he said.

Collector K. Sasidhar said dividers would be constructed from Chuttugunta junction to Medical Club Road, Anthony Church to Yetthu Road and 3 Communist Bommla Center to Chennai-Vijayawada NH.
