Bus terminal project hits road block in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: While the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is designing plans for bus terminals on the outskirts, its inter-city bus terminal project at Miyapur has hit a roadblock.
According to officials, KRR Infra, which bagged the project, did not submit the bank guarantee for Rs 14.8 crore in the stipulated time, delaying the project. The bus-terminal project had faced legal troubles related to the land. However, it got a respite from the Supreme Court. “The project is on for sure. There are two options left before us. Either give additional time to the existing company or ask a new party to carry on the work,” said an official.
The city has two bus stations —Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station and Jubilee Bus Station – which have long-distance services and inter-state services.
To ensure decongestion, the authorities had chalked out a plan to build Asia’s biggest bus terminal at Miyapur, costing Rs 100 crore, in two phases within four years.
ICBT at Miyapur will be built on 70 acres of land located on the Miyapur-Kompally Inter-mediate Ring Road, connecting NH-65 & NH-44. It is 2 km from Hyderabad Metro station, 2 km from Inner Ring Road and 4 km from Outer Ring Road.
The terminal is being built with 200 bus bays and 30 city bus bays. It will also have a 1 lakh square feet of commuter and passenger terminal space.
