Karimnagar: The water storage at the Yellamapally reservoir reached 19.1519 tmc ft against its capacity of 20.17 tmc ft, and officials after performing special prayers at the zero point released water by lifting the gates to Nandi Medaram reservoir.
The water will ultimately reach the Mid-Manair dam near Karimnagar. Officials also lifted about 10 gates to release the water into the Sundilla barrage from where it will find its way back to Medigadda. The Yellampally water reached the Nandi Medaram surge pool, part of the sixth package of Kaleshwaram through an approach canal and two major tunnels.
With work such as under-tunnels, approach canals, surge pools, head regulators and reservoirs constructions under the sixth, seventh and eighth packages completed, officials are likely to start second phase Kaleshwaram works on Tuesday.
The Nandi Medaram surge pool has seven seven 124.5-MW Baahu-bali motors for lifting water. Five motors have passed the wet run.
At Yellampally, officials released water to Nandi Medaram through the motors at the Vemsoor pump house, part of the Sripada Yellampalli Project Stage-II. Out of four motors, officials operated three to release about 750 cusecs of water.
Officials on Tuesday will release water from the head regulator of the Nandi Medaram to Lakshmipur surge-pool constructed under the eighth package at Ramadagu mandal by the twin tunnels which will cover about 11.24 km distance through the Mallapur seventh package. Bahubali motors from the surge-pool will lift the water to the the flood canal through which the Godavari and Pranahita water will reach Mid-Manair dam.
Sundilla has 7 tmc ft against to its full capacity of 8.83 tmc ft and officials relesed water through nine gates into Annaram. Annaram itself has 7.85 tmc ft against its capacity of 10.87 tmc ft and the water was released to Medigadda.
With the 16.17-tmc ft Medigadda holding 6.25 tmc ft water, officials lifted 81 gates to release about 5,75,000 cusecs of back into the Godavari, which is reaching Bhadrachalam.
