Party chief whip in Rajya Sabha quits over Congress stand

Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu announced in the House that he has accepted Bhubaneswar Kalita’s resignation.

New Delhi: Congress chief whip in Rajya Sabha, Bhubaneswar Kalita, has resigned over his party’s stand on the government’s move to revoke Article 370 and bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.

Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu announced in the House that he has accepted Bhubaneswar Kalita’s resignation. Samajwadi Party members from Uttar Pradesh Sanjay Seth and Surinder Nagar also resigned from the Upper House and the chairman has accepted their resignation.

“The resignation has been accepted. I will not analyse the reasons now, maybe tomorrow or day after, I will explain them to you,” Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu said.
