Kashmir may tilt scales in favour of BJP in civic polls
Adilabad: The abrogation of Article 370 is likely to have an impact on the ensuing municipal elections and also give some advantage to the BJP in the municipal elections with the public celebrating the bold decision of the Centre. There is a mood among the public that the BJP has merged Jammu and Kashmir into India.
The BJP leaders feel that the airstrikes on Pakistan occupied Kashmir had helped the BJP gain the trust of the people and also evoked patriotic feelings among the people, especially the youth, just before the Lok Sabha elections.
Then the BJP had won four Lok Sabha seats in Telangana and now, the abolition of Article 370 is expected to help the BJP have the same effect in the municipal elections.
Already, the BJP has proved its mettle in the Lok Sabha and local body elections in old Adilabad district by winning the Adilabad Lok Sabha seat and six ZPTCs in the old Adilabad district.
Some BJP leaders analysed that abolition of Article 370, which would make Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of the country, would create a feeling of unity among the citizens.
The abolition will have an impact on the communally sensitive areas and a section of people may become sentimental and support the BJP.
Adilabad and Mudhole towns are communally sensitive and the BJP has fared well in the Lok Sabha and ZP elections in both the Assembly constituencies. The BJP cadre celebrated the abolition of Article 370 by distributing sweets. The party leaders are spreading the message that it is the BJP which is merging J&K with the country.
Now, the youth might be inclined to vote for the BJP like during the LS elections held a few months ago.
On the other hand, police made necessary bandobast arrangements wherever needed. Sec. 144 has been imposed in Bhainsa and Utnoor divisions.
