Hyderabad: Infra woes dog residential area
Hyderabad: Despite its proximity to the IT hub, pathetic roads and sewerage issues haunt the residents of Prem Nagar. The roads continue to be neglected for years now despite allocation of funds for construction of storm water drains and CC Road. Residents have questioned authorities over the dire conditions and asked how women could use this road for the Bonalu celebrations. On the eve of Eid this year, residents fixed the road using mud but there has been no progress on the issue.
Mr Syed Iftekar, president of Prem Nagar A&B Colony Welfare Association, said, “We, the residents of Prem Nagar, request MA&UD minister K.T. Rama Rao to visit our area so that the authorities will start work. The road is in a very bad condition and is not commutable. Officials have been saying that tender is in progress, but the condition of road is deteriorating.”
In February this year, officials attributed the delay to the contractor for not taking up the work as he failed to add the GST component. GHMC officials said, “There was a need for redesigning the storm water drain because of which works could not be started, apart from the GST component. Tenders have been fixed and the storm water drain work will be initiated in 10 days. It will take three months to complete.”
Members of the welfare association alleged that despite repeated requests, they had only been getting such responses for several months.
