Hyderabad: 12 cinema halls face action for flouting rules

Despite the warnings, the officials found that the managements were flouting the rules resulting in the cases against them.

Hyderabad: Continuing its crackdown on multiplexes in the state, teams of the Legal Metrology Department on Sunday raided 17 multiplexes and registered 17 cases of violations by 12 of those cinema halls. A total of 107 registered cases against cinema halls and theatres have been filed by the department so far since the beginning of the month.

Earlier, the Legal Metrology Department had warned the managements of multiplexes and owners of single screen theatres and cinema halls of action for failing to adhere to the rules. Meetings were organised across the state by the department with the managements of the establishments to sensitise them about the rules and penalties for violation.

Despite the warnings, the officials found that the managements were flouting the rules resulting in the cases against them. With one more day of raids left, the department has completed a wide sweep of the theatres in the state and a crackdown on cinema halls that have blatantly disregarded even the smallest of regulations.

Officials claim that the department has continued to receive a number of complaints from the public about multiplexes that continue to sell food against the set regulations of marking prices, quantities and MRPS on the merchandise. The department urges the public to continue reporting the violations by calling Toll Free No. 180042500333 and WhatsApp No. 7330774444.
