Bengaluru: For a city-based couple it was a nightmarish ride after they booked an Ola Cab from Whitefield on Saturday. They were at the receiving end of the cab driver, who threatened, abused and assaulted them when he was told to follow traffic rules and not to listen to music with headphones on while driving.
Interestingly, on Saturday the cab aggregator had organized an event, in collaboration with Bengaluru traffic police, on road safety.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Saturday when the couple (name withheld), who are staying in a guest house in Whitefield area, booked a cab for four hours, in order check out a few residential apartments to move in.
In their complaint the couple stated that they boarded the cab at around 1.15 pm. Soon they noticed that the driver was talking over his mobile phone while driving. The couple then told the driver to stop using his phone while driven or attend the call after stopping the car.
The irate driver put down the mobile phone in a huff, while the couple reached one of the residential apartments.However, when they boarded the cab again to go to the next apartment, the couple found he had put on the ear phones again. When the couple told him to take it off, he retorted that he was listening to music.
They told him to follow traffic rules and take off the ear phones while driving, the couple stated in their complaint.Heated arguments ensued when the driver began to abuse the couple. Sensing trouble the couple asked him to stop the car and got down.
The driver continued hurling abuses and even assaulted them in a bid to snatch their mobile phone when they tried to call the police and threatened them of dire consequences, the police added.
Sensing trouble the couple rushed inside a residential apartment for cover and later called their friends for help. Based on a complaint filed by the couple, the Whitefield police have registered a case against the driver.
They have booked him Under Sections 323 (assault) , 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) .
