Yamanur incident: Karnataka High Court seeks report
BENGALURU: With 16 cases filed and over 187 people lodged at the Ballari and Bidar jails for taking part in Mahadayi water protest, the high court on Friday pulled up the authorities concerned and sought a report from the state government regarding the medical aid given to each arrested protestor and submit it by Monday.

The court expressed displeasure against SPCA for closing investigation, after they came to know through newspaper reports that the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) was inquiring into the assault on farmers. The SPCA then informed the court that it was withdrawing the closure report and restart the inquiry.
The state government submitted that an inquiry headed by Kamal Pant, ADGP (Karnataka State Reserve Police) has been set up by the government to investigate the Yamanur incident with directions to submit a report in a week’s time.
The court has asked SPCA and the district PCAs to visit the villages and meet the people who were canned by the police. Meanwhile SHRC in their submission said that they have taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and have recommended the state government to release Rs 50 lakh as compensation to the victims.
