Osmania University vice chancellor asks out' hostel squatters

Mr Ramachandram also said he understood the problems of students and added that he would deal with the issue with a humane touch.

Hyderabad: The newly-appointed Osmania University vice-chancellor Prof. S. Ramachandram on Friday appealed to students who had completed their courses to vacate rooms for freshers.

“Seniors should treat freshers coming here from different parts of the state as their brothers and sisters and help them get shelter,” he said.

Students overstaying against rules and denying a chance to their juniors was a big problem, felt the V-C, adding that he and other faculty members would counsel students in the coming days.

Mr Ramachandram also said he understood the problems of students and added that he would deal with the issue with a humane touch.

“Notices have already been served on students. They should understand,” the new vice-chancellor said. He was speaking to the press about his priorities on Friday.

“Getting NAAC accreditation is top of our agenda and we are preoccupied with preparation of a Self-Study Report. September is the deadline, authorities have been approached for an extension,” he pointed out.

The OU V-C added that research studies would be given a big thrust with incentives to be announced for those excelling in research, publications and patents.
