No takers to clean KSRTC bus depot

According to sources, low payment being made for the work has resulted in contractors showing no interest.

Kochi: Weak rains in current monsoon have so far kept the Ernakulam bus depot, known for its water-logging, relatively hassle-free. However, once it starts pouring heavily, commuters will have to wade through overflowing drainage water this time too. The reason – there were no takers for the cleaning contract bids floated by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to avoid water-logging menace this time around.

“We’ve invited tenders for cleaning and maintenance of drainage at the bus station and garage premises but not even a single agency responded to tenders even after the last date of submission (June 27),” said a senior official.

According to sources, low payment being made for the work has resulted in contractors showing no interest. “The drainage is already blocked and even light rains are resulting in them getting overflowed,” sources said.

Another major issue is threat of overflowing of septic tank near the comfort station. Last Monso-on, the district suchitwa mission issued a closure notice after septic waste flowed into the stand pre-mise and garage. However, the authorities are yet to take any measures for a permanent solution like setting up of a new septic tank with higher capacity.
