Khammam: Decision to scrap PG courses stuns students

The higher education commissioner issued a GO cancellation of all PG courses from the 2019 academic year.

Khammam: Students, who are demanding for an university in Khammam district, were shocked over the government’s decision of cancelling all post-graduation courses in the SR and BGNR Degree College.

The higher education commissioner issued a GO cancellation of all PG courses from the 2019 academic year.

It means that the running courses will continue till its completion but no new admissions will be taken from this year. About 500 students attend these courses, which are being run through self-finance mode.

Degree students have lost an opportunity to enrol for PG M.Sc in Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, MA in Telugu, English, Economics, Political Science and others.

Though there was university offering PG courses in Khammam these colleges have been extending only five courses like M.A (Economics), M.Com in regular basis, MBA, MSW and MA in the self-financing mode. There are no laboratories to run science courses in these colleges. Kakatiya University does not offer PG subjects.

Where went wrong and why the government took such decision, these questions are being asked by students, who are staging dharnas demanding the revoking of the order.

Firstly, there are no permanent lecturers to teach the PG courses in the degree college. The PG students are being taught by guest faculty and contract lecturers.

Secondly, many of the permanent lecturers working in degree college are teaching PG courses and are being paid `450 per class in addition to their monthly salaries by the government. These lecturers ignored their regular classes in the degree colleges. It is the contract lectuters who are running the show. There are above 75 lecturers including permanent and contract in the degree college. Many of the permanent lecturers want to teach the PG batch because of the money. of the money.
