Be careful with court orders, Telangana high court tells officials

Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Shameem Akther said that the courts would have no mercy on bureaucrats who violate its orders.

Hyderabad: Hinting that officials should be extra cautious in implementing court orders, failing which they may have to face the consequence, the Telangana High Court told public servants including All India Services officers not to jeopardise their careers by neglecting the implementation of judicial directions.

Annoyed with the attitude of public servants in trying to get protection from being punished in contempt cases by filing appeals, instead of implementing court orders, a division bench of Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Shameem Akther said that the courts would have no mercy on bureaucrats who violate its orders.

The bench was dealing with a contempt appeal filed by Mr Shashank, who is currently collector of Jogulamba Gadwal district, seeking to set aside the single judge’s directions in a contempt petition during his previous tenure as municipal commissioner of Karimnagar.

He had been sentenced him to undergo one month’s simple imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 25,000 with his own money.
