Karnataka Budget 2018: Rs 25 crore! CM H D Kumaraswamy pampers the maths

Under the social entrepreneurship scheme, financial grant of Rs 10 lakh will be provided to 5,000 SC/ST men and women to set up cottage industries.

Bengaluru: Following in the footstep of former CM and BJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa, CM Kumaraswamy has earmarked Rs 25 crore as grant to maths and religious institutions belonging to other backward communities. He said the grant will be provided to maths and institutions dedicated to provide dasoha, education and social services based on secular basis.

The CM has identified nearly 20 maths and institutions which belong to the SC, ST and other backward communities for the grant. Prominent among them are Bhagirath Peeth, Madhure, (Uppar), Srimar Chennaiah Gurupeeth, Chitradurga, Siddarameshwara Bhovi Gurupeeth, Chitradurga, Kaginele Mahasamsathana Kanaka Gurupeetha, Kaginele, Valmiki Gurupeeth, Rajanahalli, Harihara, Yadava Maha Samsathana Math, Narayanaguru Mahasamsthan, Nittu, Thirthahalli, Madivalagaruru Peeth, Chitradurga, Devanaga Guru Peeth, Hampi, Hadapada Appanna Guru Peeth, Thangadagi, Muddebihal, Kambar Guru Peeth, Athani, Chelavadi Jagadguru Peeth, Chenanahalli, Sira, Vijayasangama SC/ST Vidya Peeth, Hosadurga, Shivashakthi Peeth, Irkal, Maski, Hemavema Sadbhodana Peeth, Harihara, Karnataka Rajya Kumbara Kshemabhivruddi Sangha, Gangamathastha/ Mogaveera/ Besta/ Koli Samaja and Savitha Samaja Bengaluru.

It may recalled that then CM B.S. Yeddyurappa had allocated substantial grants to maths and religious institutions. Besides continuing grants allocated in the previous budget of Siddaramaiah for social welfare, Mr. Kumaraswamy announced a few new schemes in the social welfare sector. He has enhanced the subsidy amount of Ganga Kalyana scheme from Rs 3.5 to Rs 4 lakh. Under the social entrepreneurship scheme, financial grant of Rs 10 lakh will be provided to 5,000 SC/ST men and women to set up cottage industries.

Employment based technical training will be provided to 5,000 unemployed SC/ST youth in all districts in collaboration with the industrial and technical sector. Rs 10 crore has been earmarked for the development of Shillekyatha, Dombidasa, Gowli, Heluva, Shikaries, Hoovadiga, Kanchugara, Kammara, Darji, Devadiga, Budubudike, Thigala, Badige Hatgrara and Kareokkaliga communities.
