Hyderabad: Delay in permanent vehicle registration at showrooms

The approval process is expected to take two more months.

Hyderabad: The proposal to permit showrooms to make permanent registrations of vehicles will be delayed. The transport department has referred the proposal to the law department and Chief Minister, and the process is expected to take two more months. A few states allow dealers to make permanent registration at the showrooms. In TS, dealers are allowed to give temporary registration numbers at the time of purchase of the vehicles.

Vehicle owners need to approach the RTA within a month to get the permanent registration number. Due to the cumbersome process, owners approach brokers and agents who collect up to Rs 5,000 to get their work done. Sometimes, vehicle showrooms collect a hefty commission to ensure a smooth experience while registering the vehicle.

There has been long pending demand to allow dealers to register vehicles so that customers are not troubled. The RTA is overloaded with work and is facing a staff shortage. It wants the job to be transferred to dealers. Previous attempts towards this end did not fructify. Sources said, if the proposal was approved by the law department and the Chief Minister’s Office, it could come into force by August-end.
