Bengaluru: The state capital is all set to get an 'elevated look' with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy announcing in his budget speech that it is proposed to construct six inter-connected elevated corridors in the next four years at a cost of Rs 15,825 crore to provide better transport connectivity. This will help the city's transportation system as it has been formulated keeping in mind the Bengaluru Metro scheme too. For this programme, Rs 1000 crore has been earmarked in the current year.
In the Bengaluru Metropolitan region, the corridors will help in alleviating congestion and in providing unhindered travel and also contribute to saving travel time, vehicle operating costs, improved road safety and also lower carbon emissions. It is proposed to provide the three major corridors, three connecting corridors too as elevated corridors, the approximate length of these corridors will be around 95 km.
The elevated corridor project will be implemented in different phases. Phase 1 is the North-South corridor from Esteem Mall to Hebbal to Silk Board junction and will stretch across 23.03 km. Phase 2 is the East-West corridor from KR Puram to Gurguntepalya including the Ramamurthy Nagar Ring road to ITPL stretch and will run for a distance of 11.37 km.
The phase 3 loop in the Central Business District (CBD) will stretch across Shanthi Nagar for a total length of 11.37 km while Phase 4, the East-West corridor connecting Minerva Circle to Nice Road junction on Outer Ring Road will run for 6.60 km. Phase 5, the East-West corridor from Varthur Kodi to Richmond Circle will be 17.10 km long.
