Careful with vendors: KT Rama Rao to officials on removal of footpath encroachments
Hyderabad: Minister K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday asked officials to be sensitive while demolishing footpath encroachments, especially with property belonging to street vendors.
The GHMC has removed over 4,600 encroachments during a three-day drive, and has planned similar drives including one on Saturday.
Mr Rama Rao was reviewing the removal of footpath encroachments along with officials of the municipal administration and urban development ministry. The meeting was held at the camp office at Begumpet.
The minister asked officials to be a “little sensitive” while dealing with the street vendors. Officials should take a serious view of permanent structures constructed on footpaths and remove them forthwith. Trade licences of those encroaching on footpaths repeatedly would be revoked.
Officials also discussed plans to create a mobile app to demarcate the vending zones in the city, where hawkers would be allowed to set up their pushcarts.
Orders were given to the GHMC engineering staff to start work on foot overbridges immediately. It should be completed within three months, the meeting decided.
