Bengaluru: Soldier scientists get degrees

The atmosphere offered at IISc and studying along with an accommodating crowd of batchmates and faculty was a proud privilege.

Bengaluru: Among the 625 graduates who were awarded degrees at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on Wednesday were three men who came up the dais in the service uniform.

Major Saurabh Sharma, who graduated in Masters of Engineering in Single Processing, said the shift from being at an operational level to academia was a challenge.

“The atmosphere offered at IISc and studying along with an accommodating crowd of batchmates and faculty was a proud privilege that helped me pursue the degree," he said. For another army officer, who sought anonymity, the course helped him learn a lot from everyone around. "The time I spent with the highly intellectual student community and with the best available facilitators was completely productive,” said the officer.
