Hyderabad private engineering colleges get fee snub
Hyderabad: The state capital region has nearly 120 private engineering colleges but only three colleges — CBIT, Vardhaman and MGIT — were found eligible to charge over Rs 1 lakh in fees, annually.
Nearly ten other colleges had sought a fee hike of over one lakh but the Admission Fee Regulatory Commission (AFRC) rejected their pleas as the body was not satisfied with details submitted by these colleges’ managements on expenditure incurred each academic year.
Officials, who are part of the fee regulatory body, said that most colleges had inflated their expenditure to seek a huge hike. It has been revealed that the AFRC rejected their requests to hike fees after a thorough scrutiny.
On Tuesday, the government issued a GO with details of the revised fee structure that is to be implemented from 2016-18 across 179 engineering colleges. The fee fixed in three private colleges — CBIT, Vardhaman and MGIT as well as KITS, Warangal, was over Rs 1 lakh, with the highest going to CBIT (Rs 1.13 lakh).
The fee in other colleges as decided by AFRC is: VNR Vignana Jyothy (Rs 98,500), Narayanamma, Gokaraju Rangaraju, MVSR, Nadergul (Rs 95,000), Anurag, Ghatkesar (Rs 93,000), Sreenidhi (Rs 91,000), Muffakham Jah (Rs 85,000) and Malla Reddy (Maisammaguda) (Rs 78,000).
The highest number of colleges (53) was within the bracket of Rs 40,000 to Rs 43,000 followed by Rs 50,000 to Rs 59,000 (38 colleges). Also, 20 colleges retained the annual fee of Rs 35,000 that was decided last time in 2013-14 when fee revision was taken up.
