Bengaluru: Taking greening of Bengaluru to the next level, the Kempegowda International Airport will translocate a whopping 7,095 trees over the next few months. In the first phase, 1,285 trees will be moved to new locations around the airport by Bengaluru International Airport Ltd, which has engaged the Institute of Wood Science and Technology and Volvo to provide scientific solutions to ensure 98% success.
Volvo's Tree-Transplanter uproots trees from their original location and replants them in selected areas without damaging their roots. The process may take a day to a week or more depending on the species and the care required. Tree-Transplanter is capable of translocating around 17 large trees a day.
