‘Beat Air Pollution’ drive to mark World Environment Day

The event was spearheaded by Corporation Commissioner J Sravan Kumar and Collector K Rajamani.

COIMBATORE: In lines with the theme for 2019 World Environment Day which is ‘Beat Air Pollution’, Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC), volunteers of Siruthuli and Namma Covai organised a sapling planting drive at the 650-acre dump yard of the city at Vellalore on Wednesday.

The event was spearheaded by Corporation Commissioner J Sravan Kumar and Collector K Rajamani. On the occasion, around 300 volunteers from various institutions, NGOs, colleges, members of the 105 BN Rapid Action Force, employees of Robert Bosch Engg India, Godrej & Boyce Mfg Co. Ltd, ZF Wind Power Coimbatore Pvt. Ltd, students of Sri Krishna College of Arts and Science, Kumaraguru College of Technology, Rathinam College of Arts and Science, members of the Bharathi Park Ladies Association (BAPLA), Swachh Bharat Abhiyan ambassadors, volunteers of Aram Foundation Charitable Trust and corporation workers planted 800 saplings at the Vellalore dump yard.

Meanwhile, to celebrate World Environment Day, Coimbatore Builders and Contractors Association (CEBACA) as a part of their Coimbatore infrastructure development activities provided drip irrigation system and saplings free of cost to the Coimbatore central prison on Wednesday.

As part of the initiative, 600 metres of PVC pipes worth Rs 50,000 drip irrigation system was provided. Krishnaraj, central jail superintendent Ravichandran, managing director of RCC Group of Companies, among others, participated in the event.
