Traders vow to stop L & T Metro Rail work citing traffic chaos
Hyderabad: Traders in Abids and Koti have threatened to stop the on-going L and T Metro Rail works if the staircase from the station comes down opposite Andhra Bank. The claim of the traders is that there will be major chaos if this happens and traffic will come to a standstill.
In a meeting with Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited Managing Director Mr. N V S Reddy, the traders apprised him of the situation and stated that the staircase must not come down near the shops. Mr Govind Rathi, Chairman of the Traders Joint Action Committee explained, “The government can acquire the land and bring down the staircase at Koti Women's College. There is hardly any place here now anyway. If the staircase is lowered here, the road will become very narrow. Already it is a major traffic zone and this is only going to add to our woes.”
In a representation to the metro rail officials and also the State government, the traders have threatened to stop the ongoing work of the metro rail. Mr N.V.S Reddy, MD, said. “Right now we have two entries and two exits. This is as per the plan. We are also in conversation with the college authorities to acquire the land. Even after it is acquired, there will only be one set of staircase that will come down there. We cannot stop the work. And it is a misnomer that the road width will be reduced. The traffic will not come to a halt because of the staircase.”
