The water board pays Rs 50 crore towards salaries and monthly maintenance.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has written to the government to decrease the per unit electricity charges on par with Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited.

The water board claimed that when government could provide a public-private agency electricity at Rs 3 per unit, it could also decrease the tariff from Rs 6.95 to Rs 3 per unit for organisations like HMWS&SB with a fund crunch.

According to a GHMC official, the water board has been paying Rs 75 crore towards monthly electricity bills while its revenue is a mere Rs 80 crore. The water board pays Rs 50 crore towards salaries and monthly maintenance.

It has been paying only Rs 40 crore per month towards electricity charges and as of now Rs 240 crore is pending. Citing this, the water board has asked the government to give subsidy on par with HMRL in order to save HMWS&SB which was already in financial crisis.
