Hyderabad: Depressed' Neet student jumps to death

Jasleen, a hard-working student, wanted to become a doctor.

Hyderabad: Apparently her poor performance and low score in the Neet entrance results declared on Monday, drove 18-year-old Jasleen Kaur Saluja to jump to death from the 10th floor of a commercial complex at Abids on Tuesday morning.

Her family had lodged a missing complaint at Kacheguda police station after she stopped responding to their phone calls, said Abids police.

“By then, the CCTV footage from the spot while she was climbing over the stairs was retrieved and shared widely on social media platforms. When the Kacheguda police showed the footage to her relatives, they identified the girl,” said N. Mohan Rao, Additional Inspector, Abids.

Jasleen’s rank was beyond one lakh in the Neet results.

An eye-witness, Swamy Das, the maintenance in-charge of Mayur Kushal commercial complex, said he heard auto drivers screaming when he was entering into the complex.

“I did not understand as to why they were shouting. Seconds later, I felt something just fell beside me with a loud noise. I was horrified to realise it was a girl in a pool of blood. Even before I could react, people had gathered around us,” he said.

Sub Inspector K. Laxmaiah of the Abids police station said Jasleen had left home at 8.45 am in the morning to go to the gym. She parked her scooter near the building and then climbed up the stairs.

“The drivers noticed the girl climbing over the parapet wall and were suspicious and started shouting, but the girl jumped anyway. In the process, she landed on the cables passing by the building and then landed on the ground and died on the spot,” he said.

Police believes that Jasleen had planned to kill herself. She had studied at Slate the School, Abids branch, which was adjacent to the commercial complex.

Jasleen is the elder daughter of Ranveer and Lovleen Singh and has a younger sister, who has just completed her SSC.

Jasleen was good at academics and worked hard and wanted to become a doctor.

Her father, a businessman, was away on a business trip when the incident happened.

Based on a complaint from the building in-charge Swamy Das, a case of suspicious death was registered and the body was handed over to her uncle Surender Singh after performing an autopsy.
