Karnataka: NEET students hit hardest

CBSE sources said that they are waiting for the intervention of the union health ministry as the issue has become complicated.

Bengaluru:Thousands of medical and dental seat aspirants in the state are worried as confusion prevails over the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) Under Graduate result date and different admission dates for engineering and medical courses.

As per the original schedule announced by the Central Boar of Secondary Education (CBSE), the nodal agency to conduct the NEET UG, the examination was conducted on May 7, but the results that were to be announced on June 8 may be delayed because of legal tangles.

CBSE sources said that they are waiting for the intervention of the union health ministry as the issue has become complicated.

“There are allegations that question papers issued by the board in different languages are different from one another. Petitions have been moved questioning the constitutional validity of this national-level test. We are not in a position to announce the results as per schedule,” an officer explained.

But students from Karnataka are the worst hit. Only if the results are announced on june 8 will the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) complete medical and engineering admissions simultaneously.

Amit Tukaram, a medical seat aspirant, said, “No one understands our problem. If KEA completes engineering admissions first and medical admission later, the students who have already joined engineering courses and get seats in medical colleges will face a problem. Engineering colleges will not return original certificates, which have to be surrendered at the time of admission, unless students pay the fee for the full year. The only solution left before the KEA is not to allow engineering colleges to collect the originals from students during admissions,” he said.

He urged the state government to press the Centre for a uniform admission calendar for all professional courses.

KEA guidelines
The Karnataka Examination Authority has issued detailed guidelines for medical and dental seat aspirants on registering themselves. KEA officials said that candidates who have applied and appeared only for NEET - 2017 and not for CET will have to register online and enter all the details by selecting the appropriate link on KEA website http://kea.kar.nic.in by June 8.
The candidates who have appeared for NEET-2017 and CET have to enter their roll numbers and registration numbers of NEET-2017 online by selecting the appropriate link on the KEA website. Such candidates need not pay the fees or fill the application online again.
