Hyderabad High Court denies bail to ex-MLA

Convict serving lifer appeals local court verdict.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday refused to grant bail to former MLA Chengala Venkat Rao, who was convicted for life imprisonment by Sessions Court at Anakap-ally, Visakhapatnam.

The local court sentenced the former MLA and 20 others to undergo life imprisonment for rioting and murder of a fisherman Gosala Konda in 2007.

Aggrieved by the conviction, the former MLA moved an appeal before the High Court seeking it to set aside the conviction and release him on bail till the completion of the hearing of the appeal.

While dismissing the bail plea, a division bench comprising Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy and Justice J. Uma Devi said that there was no rare or exceptional circumstance in this case to grant bail to the appellant.

Cops get time in land scam case
The Hyderabad HC on Monday granted a week to the Cyberabad Police to respond on a petition by P.S. Partha Sarathi, the director of Trinity Infra Ventures Ltd seeking to quash a criminal case registered against him with regard to Miyapur land registration scam.

Mr Vedula Venkata Ramana appearing for the petitioner submitted to Justice T. Sunil Chowdary, who was hearing the case, that the Kukatpally police have registered two cases against the petitioner on the same offence on May 27 and May 30 — which is not allowed under law. He urged the court to stay all further proceedings in the second case including the arrest of the petitioner.

The counsel appearing for the police submitted that complainants are different in two cases — one complaint was lodged by the district registrar with regard to illegal registrationm and another by the tahsildar to protection of the government land.

Farmers told to meet collector
The Hyderabad HC on Monday told the farmers, who have moved the court, to represent their case with the district collector for allowing them to fish in Ryalampadu Bala-ncing Reservoir at Ryal-ampadu village in Jogu-lamba-Gadwal district.

Justice B. Siva Sankar Rao was dealing with a petition by Boya Ramudu and 105 others of the village stating that their lands were acquired by the government for the reservoir and in return the the government had allowed them to fish in the reservoir.

The judge felt that as per the policy the petitioners have right to fish and told them to make representation to the collector, claiming that they are displaced farmers and ask the district administration to grant permission for fishing.

Submit report on Kapra lake
Expressing concern at the illegal encroachments in Oora Cheruvu at Kapra area of Hyderabad, the Hyderabad HC has directed its registrar (judicial) to visit the lake and identify the Full Tank Level of the lake and submit a report by June 17.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice P. Naveen Rao issued the order while dealing with a contempt case seeking to punish the authorities in failing to remove the encroachments in the lake.
