Bengaluru: Only rains can clean TG Halli, says KJ George

Mr George replied that it will take some time before the reservoir gets completely cleaned up.

Bengaluru: Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George admitted on Monday that only a good monsoon can clean up Tippagondanahalli reservoir.

The issue was raised by Magadi MLA H.C. Balakrishna that the TG Halli reservoir is polluted, which is affecting the people in his constituency who are dependent on its waters.

Mr George replied that it will take some time before the reservoir gets completely cleaned up. “The government is setting up a 20 MLD sewage treatment plant near T.G. Halli, so that the water is treated before letting into the reservoir. Besides, 1.7 MLD of will be brought from Yetthinahole to Hesaraghatta and let it to the reservoir,” he said.

Mr Balakrishna, however, contended that the local legislators are not aware of any work being taken up and urged the government to form a committee, comprising Ramanagar MLAs and MLCs, to get details of works in progress.

Mr George admitted that the work is still under progress and many villages in Ramanagar district depend on T.G. Halli waters. “Besides, the present storage is also polluted. Once the monsoon begins and water starts flowing out, pollutants will be washed away. By then, the STP will also be set up. Once the Yethinahole water starts flowing into the reservoir, the problem will be solved completely,” he said. Mr George assured Mr Balakrishna that the committee will be formed once the STP is set up.
