Makeshift park for kids may have to go from Necklace Road
Hyderabad: The Necklace Road houses an unofficial children’s entertainment area that includes small merry-go-rounds, horse and camel rides. Tickets for these are inexpensive.Once the road works are completed, the future of those running these rides is uncertain.
The entertainment area is set up in the evening opposite PV Ghat and many people visit the place. Recently juice and street food stalls have come up too, operating till 10 pm daily.
A HMD official said they will have to shift once the road is laid. A senior official said, “These small-time vendors do not pay HMDA any fee; years ago the HMDA had issued passes to a few vendors who paid the lease annually. After the lease expired, they continue to operate at the open space on Necklace Road. In fact many who hadn’t been issued permits are also operating there with the support of local politicians.”
He said the vendors randomly set up stalls similar to pani-puri sellers. “Even sugarcane juice centres have come up. Earlier this space was for visitors’ parking,” he said.
He said HMDA had received complaints from parking contractors of their space being occupied. A special drive with the support of local police, Lake police and the HMDA enforcement wing will be held this month to identify their details, he said.
