Hyderabad: Missing girl, lover take poison, die in hospital
Hyderabad: A 16-year-old girl from Kukatpally who went missing last Tuesday and her alleged boyfriend from Guntur district attempted suicide by consuming pesticide at a lodge in Bhadrachalam and died at a hospital in the wee hours of Sunday. Police said the two met each other when the girl went to her grandmother's place in Guntur in May and fell in love.
According to police, the girl completed her Class X in March 2016 from a private school in Kukatpally. During vacation, she went to her grandmother’s place at Potharlanka village in Guntur district. While she stayed there, she met 23-year-old lorry driver G Ravi, a native of the same village, and fell in love with him. During her stay in Potharlanka, they had conversations over phone. After she returned to her home on May 18, they were in touch with each other over phone.
On Tuesday, she went to a school to attend a coaching class and did not return home. Her parents lodged a missing complaint. On inquiry, police found that before leaving the school, she had made a call to an unknown number from the watchman’s mobile.
Police tracked the number and found it belonged to Ravi Kumar. Its location was traced to Bhadrachalam. A special team was sent to Bhadrachalam to trace Ravi, and it was suspected that the girl went to meet him there. Police found them in a hotel, but the room was locked from inside.
“When we knocked, there was no response. Breaking the doors open, we found the two lying in an unconscious state, foam coming out of their mouths. All the things in the room were found lying scattered,” a police official said.
After first aid, police shifted them to a hospital in Hyderabad, and they died there. Police found that the girl had called Ravi from the watchman’s mobile and at his behest travelled to Tenali. From there, both travelled to Bhadrachalam. Police also recovered a pesticide bottle from the room. A case of suspicious death was registered.
