This was the second such incident in a month in which an employee died of fall from an electric pole.

Hyderabad: A field assistant on contract work with the TSSPDCL died after he fell from an electric pole in Habeebnagar on Sunday. Police said Md Shali was attending a repair call.

This was the second such incident in a month in which an employee died of fall from an electric pole. He was not wearing any safety gear. Police said, Md Shali, 25, of Mahbubnagar, resided at Mallepally and was working as a field assistant in Mehdipat-nam circle. He worked as a casual labour. On Sunday, he along with another worker, Asif, came to a junction near Muskan Footwear under Habeebnagar police station limits. After switching off power supply, Shali climbed the pole for repair work, while Asif assisted him from the ground. After a few minutes, he fell. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Reverse flow killed man
Power officials said he died possibly due to the reverse electricity supply from the inverters used at homes. If poor quality or less capacity MC used for the inverters, it will result in reverse supply, leading to electric shocks. The department will inquire into the incident, an official from TSSPDCL said, adding that his family will be entitled to a compensation of Rs 5 lakh from the department.

Sources said Shali and Asif were not wearing any safety gear and there was no official supervision on the premises. A case for causing death through negligence has been registered. In an earlier incident reported at SR Nagar, one K. Vittal died while he was taking part in cable restoration works, after they were damaged by heavy rains.
