Sonia Gandhi urges Karnataka voters to elect Congress for honest development

Hubballi: Former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi urged the people of the state to vote for Congress and bring an honest and development-oriented government to power for a brighter future.

This was her first election rally for the Karnataka Assembly election scheduled on May 10.

Recalling the support of Karnataka in the political life of her mother-in-law Indira Gandhi and herself in Chikkamagaluru and Ballari respectively, Sonia criticized the BJP-led government in the state. She criticized the current government, saying, "Dacoity is the business of those in power. In the 2018 election, you did not give them the mandate but they robbed and took the power. The 40 percent government is looting you. Their leader is so arrogant that he neither answers any questions nor replies to any letter."

She also criticized the government's attitude towards democratic institutions and urged the people to vote for Congress to free the state from the atmosphere of arrogance and hatred.

“It is our responsibility to fight against this state government. Without freeing the state from the atmosphere of arrogance and hatred, Karnataka and India cannot be developed. That is the reason lakhs of people joined hands with Rahul Gandhi when he led the Bharat Jodo Yatra,” Sonia said.

Sonia Gandhi assured the people that Congress would fulfill all its promises if voted to power, just as the previous Congress governments in the state and other states had fulfilled theirs.

She urged the people to vote for Congress with a majority to protect Karnataka from BJP's loot.

"Who do you believe can provide a Karnataka that is free of loot and on the path of development? Who can continue the tradition of harmony and provide social justice? The answer is Congress," she said.

Sonia Gandhi concluded her speech by assuring that Congress will live up to the belief placed on the party if voted to power with a majority.
