Karnataka polls: Alert on AP borders

Anantapur: The border check posts have been seriously put under alert with round-the-clock monitoring by AP and Karnataka police over suspicions of possible money transportation in view of the polls for the Karnataka Assembly. As polls are scheduled for May 10, the illicit transportation of black money from AP and other parts of the country is on the rise, and border check posts have been keen on checking vehicles.

At least 20 check posts along Karnataka borders were to curb illicit activities such as the transportation of black money, liquor, weapons, and explosives. Anantapur, Satya Sai, and Kurnool districts are located adjacent to Karnataka, the joint operations have been at the borders.

Anantapur SP Srinivasa Rao told DC that a high alert was put out at all the border areas and check posts were activated. “The check posts will function round the clock and will be keen on curbing illicit transportation of cash, weapons, and liquor into Karnataka from the AP,” he briefed, further adding that rowdy-sheeters and persons with faction backdrops in the borders of Anantapur were put on vigilant to avoid their role and impact in the elections in Karnataka.
Bellary, Chitradurg, Tumkur, Raichur, Chikaballapur, and Kolar districts of Karnataka are located closer to AP.

As most of the Karnataka Assembly segments normally have an impact on AP politics through illicit activities, many leaders and cadres are campaigning in the border segments.
