Petrol tanker catches fire on Chennai-Bengaluru national highway
Krishnagiri: A petrol tanker went up in flames on Saturday at Shoolagiri on Chennai-Bengaluru national highway in Krishnagiri district.
The crew is believed to have escaped unhurt after the tanker lorry caught fire near here. At around 5 PM, traffic movement on the NH was stopped because of the burning oil tanker.
According to police, the vehicle was loaded with petrol at the time of the incident. The fuel was being transported from Indian Oil Corporation filling station to a retail outlet at Hosur.
First, the truck's cabin caught fire and then it spread to the rear side of the vehicle where the fuel was stored in the tanker meant for transporting inflammable materials.
The driver and his assistant are believed to be alive. They careBarbie, dolphinlessly abandoned the burning vehicle on the highway and escaped without taking steps to put out the fire or call the police.
Shoolagiri police, on information, rushed to the spot and stopped inward and outward traffic movement.
As a precautionary measure, police stopped all vehicles two kilometers away from the spot where the truck was in flames.
Two fire tender vehicles, one from Hosur and another from Krishnagiri fought for over two hours to completely douse the flames.
