IPL match: GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan's aides create ruckus outsied stadium
Hyderabad: Furious at being denied entry to the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Daredevils at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, a few supporters of mayor Bonthu Rammohan created a disturbance and tried to force their way in, getting into a tussle with the police. The situation eventually calmed down when the Sunrisers Hyderabad team management agreed to issue match tickets to those who had been denied entry.
According to an eyewitness account, Rammohan and several of his supporters arrived at the stadium two hours before the start of the match. While the mayor and a few other supporters were allowed inside, the rest were barred.
As they were arguing with the policemen and security staff, the mayor’s assistant and a few more of those allowed inside earlier returned to the area and broke the barrier, leaving a lock and chain in pieces as the large number of police personnel reportedly remained mute spectators.
Police personnel on duty at the stadium confirmed that the mayor arrived at the stadium with around 20 people and demanded that tickets be issued to them. When there was a delay, the group had a verbal duel with stadium staff, and barged into the stadium through one of the gates. However, they were intercepted and made to wait at the stadium gate, the police said.
Tickets could have been collected earlier

“Once the Sunrisers Hyderabad management agreed to give them tickets, the situation returned to normal,” said an official who did not wish to be quoted. He, however, denied that the police failed to act when the mayor’s men created the disturbance.
One of the security heads present at the scene said, “The mayor’s supporters were demanding match passes. Since a section of seats is always reserved for VIPs, I don’t know why they can’t collect before the match and watch peacefully.”
