Telangana to go all out for World Telugu Meet

The World Telugu Conference organising committee met here on Friday at the Pragati Bhavan.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday said the World Telugu Conference, to be held in Hyderabad from June 2, should highlight the work and role played by Telangana in the development and growth of Telugu language and literature.

Mr Rao told officials that scholars, literary figures, prominent personalities who contribute to the development of Telugu language and literature from Andhra Pradesh and other states as well as from abroad should be invited for the conference and felicitated in a grand manner.

The World Telugu Conference organising committee met here on Friday at the Pragati Bhavan.

The CM said that the inaugural function of the conference should be held on June 2, Telangana Formation Day, at HICC and prominent literary personalities, literary connoisseurs and Telugu pundits should be invited for the conference. Their travel expenses would be borne by the government, Mr Rao said.

He said that the conference should address different genres of Telugu language and literature.

“There are many in Telangana who worked for the development and progress of Telugu language and literature. Telangana writers have shown exemplary talent in all forms of literature. Since Pothanna’s time to modern literature, literary giants have created masterpieces,” he said.

The meetings, conferences, workshop would be held during the day while the evenings would be earmarked for cultural programmes.

The CM wanted people and institutions in US, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Gulf countries and those working for the promotion of Telugu be made partners for the WTC.
