Tamil Nadu: Verdict on PG medical admissions today
Chennai: The much-awaited verdict in the PG medical admission case will be pronounced on May 6 by the Madras high court. Justice M.Sathyanarayanan reserved orders to Saturday after hearing elaborate arguments on Friday from senior counsel P.Wilson, advocate G.Sankaran and others for the candidates, additional advocate general C.Manishankar and Senior Counsel Vijay Narayan for MCI.
Originally, a different method was prescribed by the state government for awarding incentive marks for the in-service candidates for admission to PG medical courses, than the method prescribed in MCI regulations.
A doctor had approached the Madras high court and Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana had on April 17 directed the state government to follow the method of assessment of incentive marks for the in-service candidates as prescribed in MCI regulations. Aggrieved, several doctors had filed appeals.
After hearing the appeals, a division bench comprising Justices KK Sasidharan and SM Subramaniam had on May 5 delivered a split verdict.
While Justice Sasidharan upheld the method prescribed by the state, Justice Subramaniam quashed certain clauses of the prospectus issued by the state and directed the government to formulate the procedure for admission process in accordance with MCI regulations. The matter was then referred to Justice M.Sathyanarayanan.
