Neet is violence on Tamil Nadu students, says retired judge
CHENNAI: Asking the state board syllabus students to appear for NEET, which is based on a different syllabus, is violence on them, Justice D.Hariparanthaman, retired judge of Madras High Court said here on Friday.
He was participating in a demonstration organised by Federation for Protection of Educational Rights in the state against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in which leaders from various political parties, film personalities, doctors, teachers, parents and students also took part.
Drawing a parallel to the jallikattu issue, he said, “Like jallikattu, in the NEET issue also the state’s rights have been affected.”
The coaching centres alone can benefit from the entrance exam. “TN people alone can decide what mode of admissions should be followed in the state. The representatives of the seven crore people had unanimously passed the bills in the assembly. Yet, no action has been taken on the bills,” he said. He also said the ruling AIADMK party which was divided into two camps has not taken any concrete steps to safeguard the interest of the students from the state.
DMK Rajya Sabha MP R.S. Bharathi said,” NEET exam can effectively prevent the medical dream of rural students. Even after the exam, the state government should continuously strive to get the exemption from the entrance exam.”
Educationist Prince Gajendrababu, Tamil Vazhvurimai Katchi leader T Velmurugan and others have participated in the protest.
